LHL TB helpline

LHL TB helpline

Our TB helpline offers support on the telephone to persons with tuberculosis. Former tuberculosis patients answer the calls. You can call the TB helpline if you need someone to talk to, or if you wish to share your experiences of living with tuberculosis.

You can also ask questions. And you can get tips and advice about how best to endure the long treatment period: Your recovery is waiting at the end of it!

The TB helpline is part of LHL’s peer-to-peer advice service for tuberculosis patients. This advice service also includes face-to-face dialogue and various forms of meetings between current and former patients. The former patients have first-hand experience of what it is like both to suffer from TB, and go through the necessary treatment. They wish to use this experience to help those who are currently fighting their TB illness.

Call 22 79 92 00

The helpline is open every Thursday (excluding holidays) from 17:00 to 21:00. You are free to call us any time within these hours.

If the line is engaged, you can leave a message. We will return your call. You can also phone outside opening hours to leave a message. We will return your call during our opening hours.

Different people are on duty at different times. The person you talk to on the helpline one week may not be on duty the next time you call.

What does it cost?

The charge for a call to the TB helpline is the same as for a call to any land phone. The price depends on your telephone subscription. You can ask us to call you back. That way, we pay.

Why should I call?

Many TB patients are alarmed by their diagnosis. Undergoing prolonged treatment – treatment that sometimes involves troublesome side-effects – can also be difficult. The stigma tied to tuberculosis can make people feel alone with their illness. It can therefore be a relief to talk to someone who has experienced at first hand many of the same problems and feelings. One patient put it this way:

“– I want to get to know other people with TB. I’d like to learn whether their experiences are the same as mine. I want to get in touch with others who suffer from this illness and have a dialogue with them.”

Why has LHL set up a peer-to-peer advice service for TB patients?

As an interest group for TB patients, LHL seeks to develop measures that can help improve the situation and life quality of people with TB. Peer-to-peer work is about offering assistance in the shape of recognition and shared experiences. Peer-to-peer contact provides TB patients with encouragement that supplements both the care offered by public health service workers, and the support extended by family and relatives.
